The construction of medical linear accelerators plant begins in the Moscow region

Radiotherapy Equipment Factory, a resident of Dubna special economic zone, started the construction of a plant to manufacture medical linear accelerators for radiotherapy of oncological diseases.

The resident of Dubna SEZ has partnered with Varian Medical Systems, a US company that is a leading international manufacturer of medical equipment and software for the treatment of cancer and other diseases by using radiotherapy, radiation surgery and brachytherapy. Varian Medical Systems transferred the manufacturing technology and will supply components for new equipment.

The total surface area of the future plant will be about 3000 square meters. The planned amount of investments in the project of Dubna SEZ resident is 597 million rubles, including 245 million rubles provided by the Industrial Development Fund in the form of a preferential loan. This will be a highly automated enterprise. The management of the company plans to bring to the market a new generation of equipment that will cost 30% less than the existing British or American analogs, which will allow to increase the accessibility of such devices to the public following their procurement under the state orders. The investor estimates that, at the least, the plant will be able to meet the needs of Russia for this equipment (and capture up to 50% of the Russian market), and the task set for the future at the government level provides for the exports to international markets. The manufacturing of linear accelerators is planned for launch in 2018.
