According to the Russian pharmaceutical market audit by DSM Group, the analgesics occupy about 3% of the drug market in value terms, but the share in packages is much higher: about 9%.
The main channel of consumption of drugs that are analgesics (ATC group N02) is pharmacy sales: 94% of sales in the monetary terms accounted for the people who purchase it at the expense of their own funds. Only 6% of the money provided by the state (about 5% is purchased by hospitals and 1% is released at the subsidized prescription for Medicine Assistance Program). In packages, the share of pharmaceutical sales is in excess of 95%.
Over the past five years, the group of analgesics grew by 5% on average in monetary terms. In packages, the annual decline was marked – an average of 9% per year. In 2016 (in the first three quarters) the dynamics remain at -11% in packages, the sales volume in terms of value is at the level of the same period of 2015.
The bulk of analgesic drugs relates to the prescription medicines (93% in packages and 83% in rubles) and are not included in VED (Vital and Essential Drugs) list (70% in packages and 92% in monetary terms).

“Per capita consumption of analgesics in the year is 3 packages or 215 rubles. The regions with the highest per capita consumption are: Moscow (over 430 rubles), Moscow region (330 rubles), Krasnoyarsk region (292 rubles). With the lowest: Tyumen, Smolensk, Republic of Marij El (less than 100 rubles)”, said the expert of the pharmaceutical market, CEO of DSM Group Sergey Shuljak.
