In January-April 2018, the imports of medicinal products manufactured in EAEU member states amounted to 3.7 billion rubles (in wholesale prices, including VAT).
In ruble-denominated terms, this figure increased by 58.2% compared to the same period of last year. It is interesting to note that, despite such a strong increase of supplies in monetary terms, there was a significant drop in physical terms (-15.3%). Some 3.7 million packages of medicines manufactured in EAEU member states have been imported to Russia since the start of 2018.
Such strong divergence between physical and monetary indicators can be explained by the radical shift in the assortment of products imported to Russia. It is primarily change in the balance between various forms of products rather than in the list of trade names.
Overall, in the analyzed period, Russia imported products of 14 companies from EAEU member states. In monetary terms, the supplies in January-April 2018 were led by Belmedpreparaty, a company from Belarus. Kelun-Kazpharm, a company from Kazakhstan, ranked second in physical terms and was the absolute leader when it comes to the pace of supply growth. In the last year, this company increased the shipments of its medicines to Russia by almost 25 times.
Over the year, the list of products manufactured in EAEU member states and imported to Russia included 12 new trade names. Two of them, Ciprofloxacin and Docetaxel, are manufactured by Kelun-Kazpharm and lead in terms of physical supply volumes.
