The initiative to ban TV advertising of medicines is extremely harmful and dangerous, because it may be motivated by concealed interests of pharmaceutical companies, said Deputy Minister of Communications and Mass Media Alexey Volin.

“First, we consider this initiative extremely harmful and dangerous, because this initiative may be motivated by concealed interests of pharmaceutical companies and the so-called “medical lobby” to foist certain medicinal products on people,” said Mr. Volin during a joint Russian-Chinese Conference “Russia and China: Contemporary Development Challenges” held by Valdai Discussion Club.

He stressed that, when medicines are advertised on TV, people have the opportunity to get information on specific medicinal products and make a conscious choice.

“If you ban advertising of medicines on TV, then in fact you make people fully dependent on a doctor who may be corrupted by a pharmaceutical company,” said Mr. Volin.
