In 2017, the collection of donor blood in Nizhny Novgorod allowed NPO Microgen, a subsidiary of National Immunobiological Company of Rostec Corporation, to produce more than 70 thousand packages of blood products for patients in Russia.
The project was implemented by joint efforts of Rosplazma regional donor center of FMBA of Russia and NPO Microgen. Under bilateral collaboration, the donor center in Nizhny Novgorod produced 30,000 liters of human plasma in 2017, which allowed NPO Microgen to manufacture more than 43,000 packages of albumins and 27,000 packages of immunoglobulins. This was about 10% of the total output of these blood products by the company. All medicines will be distributed in medical institutions of FMBA across Russia.
“Blood donation is an important social and civic initiative aimed at assisting the patients in acute need of blood and its components. Last year, this is illustrated by such a vivid example as the manufacturing of so much vital and essential drugs for patients in Russia with the help from donors of just one region,” said Kirill Gaidash, General Director of NPO Microgen.
In 2017, the total output of blood products manufactured by the company, including albumins and human immunoglobulins, amounted to more than 750 thousand packages and exceeded similar figures for 2016 by 20%.
