The project is a priority for the Southern Federal District and it is being implemented under the federal target program “The Development of Pharmaceutical and Medical industry of the Russian Federation for the Period up to 2020 and Beyond.”
“The establishment of scientific and manufacturing center in Volgograd State Medical University will allow the Volgograd region to become a significant location for the pharmaceutical industry in Russia and the world,” said Andrey Bocharov, the Governor of Volgograd region. “Over time, we will be able to expand the pharmaceutical manufacturing, and this center will become the core for a new area in the economic activities of the region.”
The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade allocated about a billion rubles for the establishment of research center for innovative medicinal products in Volgograd State Medical University. The labs will be located in a new six-storey building with a total surface area of more than 10 thousand square meters. The latest equipment was already purchased for the center.
Today, the scientists in Volgograd are conducting preclinical studies of more than 20 drugs developed by them to treat AIDS, TB, diabetes mellitus, as well as the other innovative medicines. These are not just import-substituting drugs but the results of Russian R&D that are ahead of their foreign analogs.
