An official ceremony of signing the Code for Ethical Promotion of Medicines was held on December 8, 2017 in Almaty.
Marek Edris, the Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the Association of International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Director of ROCHE Kazakhstan LLP, said that the Code of Ethics of the Association of International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (AIPM) in the Republic of Kazakhstan was elaborated on the basis of international codes of marketing practices (IFPMA, EFPIA) and the laws of the Kazakhstan. The provisions of the Code establish standards of fair and responsible promotion of pharmaceutical products. The members of AIPM in the Republic of Kazakhstan agree not to take any action that deviates from the provisions of the Code. The Code also establishes liability for the failure to comply with its provisions. The violators may become subject to such measures as the written warning, written notice to the head office on unethical behavior in the market, and exclusion from AIPM.
Currently, 47 members of AIPM in Kazakhstan operate in accordance with the Code of Ethics. However, to ensure the effect of these measures and real change in the market, the Code must be signed by distributors, local manufacturers and health care professionals. The compliance with ethical standards in relations with the health care professionals is expected to eliminate, on the part of health care professionals, the expectations of personal gain for prescription and procurement of specific medicinal products, medical devices, medical equipment and create a transparent competition in the market of pharmaceutical products.
