Lyudmila Byurabekova, the Chair of the Pharmacy Committee of the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan, announced the measures that are being implemented in order to reduce excessive prices for medicinal products in pharmacies.

“Currently, we are taking steps to reform the sphere of drug circulation. The regulation of prices for all medicinal products is scheduled to take effect from October 1, 2018. From 2023, this will apply to all remaining OTC drugs,” said Ms. Byurabekova at a briefing held in the Central Communications Service.

According to the Head of the Pharmacy Committee, the measures adopted by the Ministry of Health can be divided into four main areas:

  • Ensuring economic affordability;
  • Ensuring transparency when preparing the lists of drugs procured by the state;
  • Ensuring open procedures for procurement of medicinal products and medical equipment;
  • Simplifying the procedures for registration of medicinal products and medical devices by reducing the administrative barriers.
