Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed an Order approving the Strategy on Prevention and Containment of Antimicrobial Resistance in the Russian Federation for the Period until 2030.
The Strategy provides for studying the mechanisms of emergence of antimicrobial resistance and systemic monitoring of its spread; improving measures to prevent and limit the spread and circulation of resistant pathogens; developing the antimicrobials and alternative methods, technologies and means of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases in humans, animals and plants.
The Strategy will be implemented in two stages.
The first stage (until 2020) is aimed at raising public awareness about the rational use of antimicrobial drugs, their adequate replacement, inadmissibility of self-treatment, increased promotion of immunization benefits and healthy lifestyles; improving detection of resistance to antimicrobials, chemical and biological drugs in pathogens causing infectious diseases in humans, animals and plants, determining of the baseline values for the antimicrobial resistance prevalence.
The second stage (until 2030) is aimed at reducing the number of cases associated with the provision of medical assistance for infectious diseases caused by pathogens with multiple drug resistance.
