A strategic dialog between Russia and the Syrian Arab Republic in the area of pharmaceutical manufacturing was held at the 2nd All-Russian GMP Conference.

Following the negotiations, Alexander Semyonov, the President of Active Component, a leading Russian manufacturer of active pharmaceutical substances, said, “The exports of products to new markets represent an important priority for the development of our company. This is a very real prospect considering the establishment of the institution of the mutual recognition of quality certificates between Russia and Syria. We are already at the negotiating stage with a manufacturer of finished forms in Syria and a major distributor supplying the products to a number of Middle Eastern countries. We hope that our cooperation will become a “bridge” to mutually beneficial relations between our countries. We have high potential for developing the international activities. In the next few years, we plan to bring the output to 140 tons a year and expand the list of products to 100 items. This includes both advanced innovative generic drugs and popular items, like antibiotics.”

The Deputy Minister of Health of the Syrian Arab Republic Habib Abboud noted the Syrian state’s need for the pentavalent vaccine and blood products. In the near future, the Syrian side will provide the list of products needed by that country. In addition, the Syrians believe that the signing of drafted protocol on cooperation would simplify the registration of Russian drugs and allow to begin their imports.
