Hikma will build a pharmaceutical plant in Kazakhstan

A priority investment contract was signed in Astana between the Investment Committee of the Ministry for Investments and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Hikma CIS JSC, the Kazakhstani project of Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC, a Jordanian transnational company.

In 2015, the company began to work on the investment project for construction of a pharmaceuticals plant in Alatau Industrial Zone (Almaty). The company will make high-quality pharmaceutical products to meet the needs of all population groups of the republic in affordable medicines and reduce the dependence of Kazakhstan on imports of medicines. The range of manufactured pharmaceuticals will include cardiovascular drugs, broad spectrum antibiotics, drugs for diseases of central nervous system, oncology, and others.

The company has already received a land plot in Alatau Industrial Zone in Almaty and signed a 10-year contract with SK-Pharmacy LLP on exclusive manufacturing and supplies of drugs. It is currently studying the issues of land works and setting up the manufacturing process. The project will be fully financed by foreign investor.

“This project is under our special control, because it is being implemented as part of the Nation Plan announced by the head of state to attract transnational companies and manufacture export products in Kazakhstan,” said Nursultan Dzhienbaev, the Deputy Chairman of the Board at KAZAKH INVEST National Company JSC.
