During the Baikal International Ecological Water Forum, Irkutsk Region Development Corporation JSC and MedTechService LLC signed an agreement on implementing a federal level project to build a plant in Irkutsk.
The plant will manufacture glucometers and test strips designed to measure blood sugar based on an innovative technology that uses GDH enzyme and carbon layer.
The planned project is socially important both for the Irkutsk region and for the Russian Federation in general. According to rough estimates, at least 8.7 million people in Russia are suffering from diabetes mellitus. The new domestic production facility to manufacture the test strips will help these people to effectively monitor their blood glucose and plan the treatment program by providing one of the most accurate measurements available in the market at a price, which is by 20-50% lower than the that for imported analogs. This will also allow to cut the budgetary expenditure on state procurement of test strips for medical institutions.
The capacity of production facility is expected to reach 3,168,000 packages of test strips a year. Their manufacturing will bring additional tax revenues to budgets of different levels and create at least 200 new jobs. The equipment and technology will be supplied by B-bio Ltd., a Korean company which is a subsidiary of Philosys Group.
