In November 2017, Cokey Systems Co., Ltd, a Japanese company, will put into operation a 65 million ruble plant for manufacturing glycyrrhizic acid from the licorice root in the Astrakhan region. This was announced by Alexander Zhilkin, the Governor of the region.
“As for the project of Japanese company Cokey Systems Co. Ltd in Krasnoyarsky district, the plant will be launched in November. Currently, the equipment is installed, and there is testing, customs clearance, and so on. The first stage is the manufacturing of glycyrrhizic acid, which is used in more than 1200 medicinal products,” said Mr. Zhilkin.
He noted that the quality of licorice, that grows in the region, is very high; so, the prospects of this company are good.
A land plot of 8.5 hectares in the Talnikovy settlement was leased for this project which is being implemented in the region since 2014. It is planned that the capacity of the Japanese-Russian enterprise will be 230 tons of glycyrrhizic acid a year. The consumers of this product will include not only the pharmaceutical companies, but also the food industry, as well as the manufacturers of soft drinks. The approximate amount of investments is 65 million rubles.
