Jatinder Chima, the Director of the Regional Mission of the United States Agency for International Development/Central Asia, and Mirzanozim Dusmuratov, Chairman of the Board of the State Joint Stock Concern “Uzpharmsanoat”, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which allowed to formalize the cooperation between Uzpharmsanoat and USAID on the project “Promoting the Quality of Medicines” in Uzbekistan.
Under this project implemented by the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention, a scientific nonprofit organization, USAID will cooperate with Uzpharmsanoat to achieve and maintain good manufacturing practices and quality standards. The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention establishes standards for identity, strength, quality and purity of medicinal products manufactured, distributed and consumed across the world.
Dr. Chima noted the importance of cooperation with USAID and said, “Today, the tuberculosis is the most formidable killer among all infectious diseases in the world and it remains a serious challenge in Central Asia. USAID is pleased to cooperate with the government of Uzbekistan and Uzpharmsanoat in order to ensure high quality standards, safety and efficacy of medicinal products manufactured in Uzbekistan, as well as their availability for effective treatment of tuberculosis in patients throughout the region.”
