The new Center of Excellence for the development of innovative medicines and technologies was opened at the St. Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Academy (SPCPA). Mr. Sergey Movchan, the Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg also attended the opening ceremony taking place last Tuesday.
Currently, the Centre has several divisions for working with hard, soft and injectable dosage forms. Also, the laboratories to control quality, chromatographic and spectral analysis techniques have already been functioning. They will conduct research and development work, as well as trainings for the SPCPA students.
According to the rector of SPCPA, Mr. Igor Narkevich, funds for construction of the Center were allocated under the program “Pharma 2020”. “Reconstruction of the building continues,” – said the rector of the Academy. He also added that since the SPCPA building is an architectural monument, all the necessary civil engineering works have been carried out using “gentle technologies”.
According to the Vice-Governor, Mr. Movchan, the idea of establishing such Center appeared a long time ago. “The decision on the establishment of the Center was made by the former Governor, Mrs. Valentina Matvienko. The new Governor, Mr. Georgy Poltavchenko kept this decision, “– Mr. Movchan said.
